But I do have to say that, as an average (maybe slightly above average) user, I think they're entertaining. Do they serve a purpose? More than likely they do, and I can think of a few possibilities as to what they are (again - "possibilities"), but I can see where everyone else is coming from thinking that they don't. But, let's keep in mind that 98% of what's on YouTube doesn't serve a purpose. Dr. Horrible's doesn't serve a purpose. LonelyGirl15 doesn't serve a purpose. The majority (not all) of the video blogs out there don't serve a purpose. And on and on. Well, that's not true. They do all serve a purpose - they entertain. And, honestly, I think that's all Microsoft is doing as well. They're trying to entertain ("trying" being the key word there - it can go either way as to whether or not they're succeeding). And again this is just my personal opinion, and as I mentioned I'm not one considered to be in the know but, let me ask you this: With the stigma that the majority of the people you reference (99% of the blogosphere) have towards Microsoft, could there be a bit of biasness (sp?) in their opinions? If it was the exact same videos except for instead of it being Bill Gates it was Steve Jobs or some other non-Microsoft person, do you think everyone's opinion (including yours) would be different? I would think that probably half of the people that hate the videos would suddenly love them and think they were genius (I mean, c'mon, do you really not find any humor in the fact that each video has Uncle Bill compulsively breaking in a pair of shoes? I remember over a decade ago reading an article about how he flipped out cuz his shoes weren't broken in and took them off DURING A MEETING and just started bending them like crazy.) I don't know, maybe it's just me (and it sounds like it is) but while it is drivel and it is on the surface pointless, it gives me - the average user - a different view of Evil Uncle Bill. I place them on the same level as the AT&T rolloever minutes commercials ("Isn't your sister lactose intolerant?"). Anyways, now that I've given my 2 cents (and then some), I think the concept of your blog is genius. It's the perfect thing for late adopters to help make informed decisions. Thank you.
